Question >>> ve cam plate spring <<<

It seems like maybe we discussed this some three or more years ago.

There are a gazillion VE pump-building TECH articles amongst the VW crowd, many very detailed and extremely helpful.

Plus, I have an instructional DVD and book combo set, also written and produced by a VW guy.

Every one of these VW tutorials shows and explains the presence of a single spring sitting in the center-hole of that four-legged "CROSS" that engages the main drive-shaft and cam-plate.

Some three or four years ago, when we re-sealed the pump on the son's truck, there was no such spring in there.

Likewise right now while resealing the pump on my truck; no such spring in there either.

Should we have this spring ??

If it is normal that our VEs do not have this spring, then what purpose does it serve in the VW pumps ??

Thanks.

Well, it appears we did discuss this some time ago.

It won't hurt to discuss it again; by now there are probably others wondering over the same situation.

So, verdict is no spring, possibly because of low RPM? That's alright, it's just another thing to fly out and lose in the grass.

Interesting...I do not know why either, but the RPM or the way the front timing gear is attached and supported on the 6bt vs the VX IP?

I have a VW VE for a 1.6L. I will take it apart this winter and report some findings.
