The original that came on your (And mine) was 18cm. . When pulling and the EGTs get high drop a gear to let work eaiser. Also be sure the waste gate accuator is working.

Dan, if you look back in the archive posts on turbo mods, the dates of 2000-2004, you will see that most suggestions for best bang for the buck was a 2nd Gen HX35 coupled with a 16cm exhaust housing. Flowed enough air for towing purposes, and also spooled quick enough for in town driving.
I think the16cm for auto transmission would work good. I a starting to wish I had a 14cm. oh well first things first.

That isn't a stock Dodge hx35 exhaust turbine housing. It may be aftermarket as it isn't waste gated. This could be your problem if it it 12cm or smaller with no wastegate.

this is what my 96' looks like with the factory stock 12CM wastegate.

Not sure. It was on it when I bought the truck. It's a hx 35 no wastegate. It's turning 35 psi with no problem. Might would do more.

As
Far as driving it everyday it does fine as long as u don't hold it to the floor from a dead stop. I can ease into it and control the egts. I'll take a video tomar after I get off work. Does it "NEED " a wastegate

The smaller exhaust housing work better for spool up but having a waste gate is pretty nice if not needed.
Otherwise the old 18CM or even the "lag master" 21 CM 1st gen housing took forever to spool up but didn't need the waste gate.

Mark. I think your right. There is nothing to identify what it is. I bought the crossover tube for a 35 and it fit

That doesn't look like a stock 2nd gen HX-35 to me.
I have never seen "muffling device" cast into the Ex. housing on any of the 2nd gens I have worked on.
On a side note...who sells that cross over tube?
