Valve seals

How many of you have done valve seals?
I have blue smoke when cold, or below operating temperature. Everybody says the cummins last forever, but how well do the guides/seals last?

My turbo doesnt appear to be slewing oil everywhere...

Does your blue smoke smell like burning oil, or does it make your eyes water? Walk into the cloud and breathe deep if you are not sure...

It sounds like normal cold "white" smoke to me.

I just had a 24v that had guides that were trashed. Had 120k on it.

Truck also was a 99 w/o a 53 block that was cracked.

Drop the turbo and see if you have oil in the exhaust manifold.

Don't forget to check the exhaust side of the turbo. The shaft seal could be out..I'd check that first, since it less time consuming than taking the manifold off first. No oil in the down pipe, then you'll know what it is...As it heats up, it will burn it.
