1- The best place to get the gaskets is Cummins. Tell them you want the gray ones. It is very easy to do, just one bolt per cover.

2- If you have the valve covers off, you might as well adjust the valves. It's very easy to do and requires no special tools. A little reading:http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/valve_adj/12_valve.html
The methods down at the bottom are fine. You don't need to monkey around with the timing pin or any of the special tools they show. Basic hand tools and a set of feeler gauges is all you'll need.

Unless your's are torn or leaking you really don't need to replace your gaskets. Especially if you have the gray ones. They are meant to be reused. All you need is a feeler gauge a screwdriver and a couple of wrenches.

...that you know of.

Use the map to find the nearest Cummins distributor, call them up, and you will have parts in a couple days.

Lots of truck dealers stock these gaskets too.
Our local Kenworth dealer and Freightliner dealers both stock them. They are less expensive than Cummins for some reason.
