Turbo Help... Which one?

Hi,
Well my poor, long time in the works, conversion got robbed...by myself. Long and short is I tore the old turbo off of it to get another truck fixed up and ready for sale. I am getting close to starting my chevy, and now need to adress the missing turbo issue. I want a nice mild truck with some gut and acceleration but nothing fancy. I will probably tweak the fuel screw, 3200 rpm governor and intercool it. What turbo do I need to get? I was looking at HX-35s with wastegates on the newer trucks, either that or if I could properly identify an old flea bay turbo that I could scavenge for parts, to make one good one. What I have left is the old H1C with the smaller compressor wheel from a non intercooled truck, broken shaft and exaust turbine, good center section, 21cm ex housing and good small front compressor cover. There seems to be a bunch of crumby holsets someone is selling on flea bay for the $100 range. Can I buy any of them and get enough parts to build something half way decent? I am still tight for cash but currently have $150, could I get a working HX35 for that much? Which option would be better? Thanks guys

You might be able to pick up a working HX-35 that low.

A good H1C turbine/shaft assembly is what you lack?

Right...
Dummy me, tried to loosen the compressor shaft like a right handed nut, and twisted it till it broke. Then when I sold the other truck I put my 18 or 18.5 housing on that turbo, leaving me with the 21. So I need a shaft and an exaust housing in order to keep away the turtles that would pass me up!! I read a bunch of posts and it seems that a wastegated turbo worked well on an old cummins. I don't understand enough yet to know if I could buy an old HX40 off of ebay and hybrid it with my H1C, or any other appropriate hybrid. I could see getting something that either didn't work together or even if functional didn't produce the right boost and response because I don't have any experience matching these things up. Thanks for the input Wanna!

I bought a turbo from a forum member out of the classifieds... What a deal. It is off an 05. I don't know if it is from an auto or manual. Just at a glance it looks like a tiny exaust housing and a big compressor. It came with the stock manifold. I was wondering if others thought the 05 manifold would bolt up to my 91 motor and also if it would flow better then stock. Or should I go with my stock manifold? Well how did I do... will this turbo work well with my old motor? Better then the broken shafted H1C, I am sure. Thanks.

When you get it in hand, you'll wonder how that itty bitty sissy charger supports 305 or 325hp. It's definately an emissions related charger. It should work ok for a stock 1st gen truck. The exhaust housing can't be swapped with h1c or hx35 housings fwiw. It's a 9cm housing iirc. The exhaust manifold won't work, so you'll be using your stocker.

stock it is then....
I am glad to hear that it will work without too many difficulties... 9CM is itty bitty. I was thinking that it should spool quicker and get more low end performance then the old 21CM housing on the H1C. Also there is an electronic component going inline to the wastegate actuator, is there something I need to do to this since I am obviously electronics poor on my old engine? thanks for the responses....

The 3rd gen turbo should cool just as much as the HX-35 if not more.

Did you get the elbow with the turbo? The turbo outlet is 4 -3/16ths. I know its larger than a normal 4 inch flange, like on the HX40's.
