truck will not crank after it gets hot

Help!! I have a 1993 Dodge w250 ext. cab 5.9 diesel 4x4 automatic.Put this on at end of Sept,still have not located problem. Truck will not crank after it gets hot. Wait about 30-40- minutes and it will crank. Have checked relays and problem is not there. Appreciate any help tcb1

^^^^^^^What he said. That is what all my trucks have done when starters go bad. Maybe beat it with a hammer if you want for a sec while someone tries to crank on it. Works sometimes.

Very easy job to replace starter contacts, and usually ends up more reliable than replacing the whole starter with a jobber unit.

If it will not crank after it gets hot it could be the windings in the solenoid going bad, coil resistance goes up as windings get hotter, replacing the coil is possible if you have the proper tools if not you will have to replace it.

Anyone who has had a Corvette or a high performance GM with headers will know about heat soak.
