truck not charging

truck not charging

i have a 1989 dodge cummins its not charging i have replaced the alt voltage regulator and battery any help???

Make sure the main body ground (goes from the negative battery terminal to the core support) is intact. Make sure the regulator case is a good ground. Make sure the blue wire at the reg has power with the key on. Check the wiring between the alt and the regulator for continuity.

I don't remember if the '89 had a serpentine belt. If so, is it routed properly?

should both wires that plug into voltage regulator both have power?

No, only one side should have 12 volts when running.

The power is coming through the field. If you are using a decent test light it should be real dim on one wire if it lights at all, and the other one should look like you just hooked up to the battery. If you have one of those stupid LED test lights, get a test light with a real bulb.

they both look the same its a old bulb tye could anything in the black box on the alt b fried? also it was charging fine til i took it 2 get trans rebuilt does that help?

There should not be enough power on that green wire to light a test light. You've got a bad wire or alt. The "box" is just a connector.
