I have been adding my used oil to the fuel, in a ratio of one-to-twenty, for many years, with no issues whatsoever.

I stop doing it in about mid-October and start back about May.

I have, so far, never had a filter problem due to the used oil.

If it will clog the fuel-filter, how is it going to get through the engine-oil filter ??

I always strain through a paint-filter, then run it through an old Mr-Coffee filter-holder with a fresh coffee filter.

It takes about twenty-four hours for a gallon of used oil to pass through the coffee-filter.

Fuel shut off solenoid could still be the problem. You can remove it then take out the plunger and spring and try to start it. If that works you are now a member of the pull cable crew.

I keep a spare solenoid in the truck, you can cross reference the P/N to the bosch number and order it from rockauto.com for 45.00, I had a coupon from them for free shipping. I thought that was the best price I could find!

The only time that happened to me it was a bad lift pump. As I recall, it was about the same crappy 2 degrees with wind, like now!... not the best to start walking but some guy took pity on me and gave me a ride the rest of the way.
