Transmission Swap

I have a couple more questions about swapping transmissions in my 91.

If I wanted to update the tranny from the A727 to a A518 or A618, which one would you guys do? Am I correct in thinking the A518 in hydraulic operated, but has no lock up, and the A618 is electronic operated but has lock up?

Or should I just get my tranny rebuilt stoutly and buy an aftermarket overdrive. I was intending to swap to a NV4500, but now I am getting nervous about the conversion from auto to stick, I cant seem to find the pedals.

What would you guys do? I have about 4k to get all this done with and each day my current A727 is getting worse.

pedals arnt your problem, gearing will be. if you pop a 4500 in with 3.07s you maybe able to set a new land speed record. you could get pedals out of a bone yard. then buy a high impact or quad 4x4 conversion kit if you have a W youd need a different transfer case or rebuild it. if you went to a A* tranny youd probably have to do everything plus resize your drivelines and new tranny mounts.

Ill be using mine till it falls out or i can get all the parts to swap.

I think I have the NP205 TC, why would I need to rebuild it? I would need a flex plate too I think.

the auto has fewer splines than the manual. think the 727 has 23 splines and the getrag and 4500 have 29.

I see your point, I am still undecided. I want the stick but something is steering me away as far as getting all the prices, afraid of running over budget, you know. I thought I looked for those type of threads and didnt find anything else, about tranny swaps. If you get time think you could paste the links so I could see the pics.
