i have a 94 2wd and the auto is giving me nothing but problems. i had the trans rebuilt and it is not doing what it should. the temp light comes on all the time and it drops its self out of lock up and o/d. but there is no evidence of the trans overheating says the trans shop. i am tired of fooling around with this transmisson and am considering swaping to a 5spd. is there anyone that has done it? the search function isnt working for some reason. also has anyone had the trans temp light come on and off and downshifting at random times? i have replaced trans temp sender twice, and tps, along with a full rebuild, all within the last 2 months. the trans shop is either incompetant or there is something wrong. any insight on the swap or ideas of the problem would be awesome.

Yes there are several floating around here that have done that.

What are you normally doing when the temperature light comes on? Is it having problems staying locked up or does this only happen when it starts running hot?

The search function gets turned off when traffic is high, try it on a off hour and it'll work fine or go to the bottom of the page where you can use google to search the forum.

Seriously, unless you land a helluva deal on a NV4500, it's gonna cost ya a bundle to convert...

I'd locate a better shop, and have them document any inaccuracies they find upon teardown, and pursue trying to get some of your money back from the other place...

Have you removed the TPS wires from the wiring harness? I heard that helps with alot of the TC and O/D issues..

 

do a search for Freddy2Pipes .. he has done the swap in his 93.. or is it a 92.. either way he should be able to help some.. Different body style I know but he did this swap..

If you are going to do a swap to a 5 speed, find a donor truck that is a 5 speed to get all the trinkets to do a conversion. Too many parts to list. and maybe the bone yard will cut you a break on all the parts. If you don't find a donor truck, ther is always some trinkett that is missing or not just right and the cost gets a little out of hand.
