transmission repair questions

transmission repair questions

howdy, i blew up my 47rh and i have no forward gears at all, i only got reverse and had metal all over the oil pan. now i got another transmission at work from a 97 or so dodge 2 wheel drive with a v8, that blew it's forward clutches, will shafts and pieces work from that transmission in my transmission?

What kind of metal? Steel or aluminum? No forward gears means the rear clutch is not applying or is wasted. You have reverse because it used the front clutch and the rear band.

The internal parts from the 97 gas 2wd will interchange, but I can't say whether they would be up to the task or not. Not sure the input shaft will, but there shouldn't be anything wrong with your shafts, all the shavings might have come from a planetary getting chewed up.

Who does your trans work? If you can do it I would pull the trans out and try to determine why you lost forward gears first. Check things carefully as you pull them apart.

the metal is aluminum, it dident stick to the magnet, i got a guy at work thats has built aalooott of transmissions and said he could help me when ever i needed it. and same as the guy at work said, was to pull it apart and find out what i need. what kind of tools might i need?

first tool you need is a manual either a FSM or one of the ATSG manuals you can get from the place you get your parts from. after that a few sets of snap ring pliers. the overdrive has a big *** spring and you need a special tool I just used a press. Ken

oh ok, i got a press at work i got a shop manual and a whole drawer in the tool box of snap ring pliers, i thinkk im good on that part
