Well considerin my truck is outta action agian its time to look for a new truck, thing is i wanna keep my engine. build it up and stuff, i found a nice 93 7.3 for bout 3k im just wondering should i keep my tranny too. i figure i can get at least 3 for the truck and tranny. ive dont most the body work on the truck theres a few places it needs derusting and patched then shes ready for paint. The 7.3 got a ferd 5sp behind it so my question is do i keep my tranny and use the ferd when i swap, or do i get rid of it too, and use the ferds or just look for a nice nv4500 to stuff up under there?

I doubt you can get $3k for everything minus the engine. More like $3k for everything the way it sits now, but we won't get into that again.

I suggest putting that $3k into the truck you have now. You'll be better off in the long run. We're not gonna say we told ya so, but time to do it right. Use Cummins parts only on the engine, its a 5.9 Cummins not a 5.9 Chrysler, so anything else (parts store parts/gaskets etc) is not worthy to use on the engine. Read through some of you old threads and take some of the other guys advise, about taking the head and having it magnafluxed or whatever it is, get it o-ringed etc. I swore I suggested oil cooler when you first had the problem. Should've done that before you sealed it up. Just take your time, get the good parts, don't skimp out or cut corners. I'm sure a headgasket job is just around the corner for me, considering my new pump and advanced timing etc. I'll be taking the head to Scheids and letting them check it out, o-ringed or fire-ringed etc, head studs at that time too.
