According to my handy-dandy owner's manual, the autos have a GCVWR(Vehicle+trailer) of 12,000 and the manuals have a rating of 16,000(both axle ratios)

The automatic towing rating is increased to 14,000# if you add a large fluid cooler with fan to keep the trans cool.

Remember, this is Gross COMBINED Weight Rating - truck & trailer. I tow a 28' fifth-wheel that weighs 7500# with my 92 D250 at 6500#. With the installed heat exchanger on the passenger side of the block, the small cooler above the radiator and the fan/cooler, I had no problem.

The truck will tow more weight with greater reliably, IF you upgrade the trans, etc., etc., etc.

Regards, DBF

i pull various wiehgte dloads a lot, nothing huge yet but i have hauled a few 16' flatbeds loaded DOWN with about 5 tons on it and it yanks it good, i wouls think if you just used the OD button and maybe a trans cooler and some pump tweaks w/ guages and a 3200 rpm spring, you couldnt get a truck to pull better! good luck
