OK, OK I got the book out. In my 89 service man it says 101 foot pounds and to use a cross pattern when you snug them up. That is for the bolts that go into the crank. It also says its for a "flywheel" . No listing for "flexplate".

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can look at this:

from the 92 FSM

pg 9- 99 the flexplate torque spec of 55ft/lbs is at the end of 5.9 gas engine section.

pg 9- 146 thru 148 torque specs for our 12v doesn't list flexplate. It does say flywheel 101ft/lbs

I looked it up because 101 and 55 is a big difference.

Bc847's rebuild "I bolted it together with backing-plate, LocTite, and torqued to 55ft/lbs in the typical star pattern."

good enough? gas/diesel should be the same???

will over torque @ say 101ft/lb hurt??

i don't think you could get a torque wrench in to the t/c bolts... with those i go as tight as i can get them with a std wrench

IIRC you can get to them through the little cover on the pass side of the rear housing. (from the engine compartment side)

In my 89 FSM I could not find any torque specs for " flexplate " I would assume that the bolts are same grade and thread size between flywheel to crank ( standard ) and flexplate to crank ( auto ) so why wouldn't they be the same torque spec?

when installing the BD flexplate they say 101 FT/LB. ATS flexplate was 110 FT/LB. And I have re-installed my plate 3 times on the same bolts @ 110 FT/LB. Then the TC @ 35 FT LB. .
