torque spec for...

flex plate bolts on 92

apprentice 10-17-2008 08:15 PM

realy, this is a stumper?
no one?

Richie O 10-17-2008 09:37 PM

OK, OK I got the book out. In my 89 service man it says 101 foot pounds and to use a cross pattern when you snug them up. That is for the bolts that go into the crank. It also says its for a "flywheel" . No listing for "flexplate".

thanks for the reply.... ive searched and cant find it. was planning on getting things done tonight, guess it'll have to wait for another day

wait a second..............

from the sticky:

BC's 518 rebuild

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=160276

55ft/lbs in star pattern with loctite

grandpa ralph 10-18-2008 12:56 AM

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can look at this:

from the 92 FSM

pg 9- 99 the flexplate torque spec of 55ft/lbs is at the end of 5.9 gas engine section.

pg 9- 146 thru 148 torque specs for our 12v doesn't list flexplate. It does say flywheel 101ft/lbs

I looked it up because 101 and 55 is a big difference.

Flexplate to crankshaft or flexplate to t/c...;)

apprentice 10-18-2008 02:24 AM

Bc847's rebuild "I bolted it together with backing-plate, LocTite, and torqued to 55ft/lbs in the typical star pattern."

good enough? gas/diesel should be the same???

will over torque @ say 101ft/lb hurt??

i don't think you could get a torque wrench in to the t/c bolts... with those i go as tight as i can get them with a std wrench

IIRC you can get to them through the little cover on the pass side of the rear housing. (from the engine compartment side)

that will make things easier

What grade are the bolts and pitch of the threads. That will determine the torque.

Richie O 10-18-2008 04:18 PM

In my 89 FSM I could not find any torque specs for " flexplate " I would assume that the bolts are same grade and thread size between flywheel to crank ( standard ) and flexplate to crank ( auto ) so why wouldn't they be the same torque spec?

update

went to a friends shop, he has the mitchell repair on line "www.shopkey5.com"

"flywheel/flexplate to engine 101 ftlb"
"12 1/4 torque converter to flex plate 35 ftlb"
"trans to transfer case nuts 35 ftlb"
"converter housing to engine bolts 30 ftlb"

05CTDN8 08-12-2010 01:53 PM

when installing the BD flexplate they say 101 FT/LB. ATS flexplate was 110 FT/LB. And I have re-installed my plate 3 times on the same bolts @ 110 FT/LB. Then the TC @ 35 FT LB. .
