timing all the way to the head need help with egt issues

ok guys i did a little experimenting with the truck in the mud this weekend. i realized that when i get stuck the egts just go through the roof like 1500 i really do not like that! so i was wondering if i timed it more would i lose more egts? also would this be a bad thing for what i intend to do with it i know timine boosts drive pressure which can be a bad thing as well? it will probably be a lot of wot with not a lot of movement. but im sure guys work their trucks this hard everyday.

also if you time it all the way to the head what do you do with the fuel line? mine is already tucked right up there now thanks a lot guys

Keep the tailpipe out of the mud!

Adding an intercooler would help. When I put my pump against the head I just slightly loosened the boost line out of the head and then adjusted the pump. The boost line just bent itself as needed for the pump movement.

yeah i have the intercooler off a 2nd gen it will just be some fabrication! but i suppose.

but how many egts would i lose with timing it all the way to the head? a hundred or so, it is about 1/2 inch away now

i was talking about the fuel line on the front of the pump not the boost line

Also i have a stack and the mud dont get up there well not most of the time!

when i put mine to the head it lowered my egt's but not dramaticly, and it sounded like a 24v. i would be trying to put that 2nd gen intercooler in if i were you, that should help alot.

really advanced timing raises cylinder pressure and can cause head gasket to blow pretty quik. the intercooler really adds more usable power, worth the effort.

I just let my fuel line hit the head. You might be able to bend it down a little bit if you need to. If I remember correctly I lost about 100 degrees maybe a little more. Really advanced timing usually means advancing the pump gear by one tooth, I wouldn't worry about the head gasket with the pump against the head, but that's me. On the innercooler, have you looked at any of the water to air units?, something like that might fit your needs a little batter.

either that or i will just turn down the fuel. the reason i dont want to use the i c is because i have to pipe the thing and then get a new radiator and move a battery etc and fab it all up again i realize that it is a big ordeal i would like to find a water one but they are usually expensive from what i have found

Oh and i am somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 psi so more timing means higher boost right which equals blown hg right?

more timing can reduce boost,in testing i found it can slow spool-up a little too, but its the cylinder pressure that gets the headgasket. also if you have a original non i/c gasket they are more prone to fail due to different design. intercooled had a better one from factory. brief 1500* egt spikes on a play truck may not be detrimental.

That's what I've seen with my truck also.

I believe flexalite makes an electric fan that is made to cool a diesel, it should help.

I noticed that when I had my timing bumped up a bit that my engine water temp would be higher and my EGTs were down. So i went back to no timing because when I haul it was horrible. Its a lose, lose situation for me.

Bend it out of the way or get a Big line kit and reroute it.
