I can't say for positive but the 2 pumps that i have replaced had the mark on them. when the rebuilt pump came back, and i had it in installed, and proceeded to remove the lock pin from the pump, those make lined up!

Just did mine. Took me two seconds to bend a 13mm wrench with a torch. The S wrench I used, hit the vaccum diaphram and wouldn't let me turn more than breaking loose.

Also, my bent 13mm got to the rear nut nicely without any extensions needed. Loosening the banjo on the AFC is all that was needed. I popped off the throttle linkage, opened the throttle a little for clearance, then a pipe wrench fit on the back of the pump nicely and made a quick job of turning the pump. Definitely sounds like a truck now.

Would that factory mark still be right if the pump is a remanufactured unit? My timing case looks like it was a test bed for chicken scratching. Too many marks to go by.

timing

if you got too many scratches just bump it towards the motor and try it if it sounds like a 6.2 back it up a bit on mine a can barely get my hand between the pump and motor and so far so good

No, that mark is only accurate for the original pump.

Boatnik, i have only replace 2 of theses pump but both of them, when it was installed, lined up in line with the makes!
the first on I pinned before i pulled it and the sec one. the pump shop said that it wasn't necessary for him to rebuild it but was a good idea for me!

SO being the curious mind, I purposely turned the pump to the manifold and then pinned it!

Like i said, before, they both came back timed to the mark and them I unpinned it!

I use a Craftsman 1/2in crow's foot with a 3" 3/8 extension on a 3/8 ratchet to reach the nut around down and around the corner. But, if you have an old/ cheap wrench to bend, that'll work just as well.

More timing will give more black smoke at low RPM.
