Thinking about 14cm non/wg housing for better around town and highway?????

I plan to KEEP the stock injectors in this truck and for the most part will be looking to get the best mileage possible. Right now the low end grunt seems non existant and its slow to pick up and go. I have bumped the timing and trimmed the fuel pin some, thats about it for adding power as this truck is for long haul and light towing.

SOOOO, is a 14cm non w/g housing a good pic for my application? Right now after the lag goes away I pretty much top out at 23-25psi.

Probably a good choice, but do you have gauges on it? What is on it now? I bet a 21?

I just have a boost gauge on it so far. I'm sure its safe though, I havent touched the fuel screw yet and I opened up the intake and exhaust. It was built March 1992 so I think its got the 18.5cm on it.

I'm thinking you might be a little more laggy on the bottom end. If you can live with that it should be fine. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Nope, the opposite....You will enjoy it. It brought back the low end grunt after adding my 35"s.

I say the 12cm w/g could be made to flow on as well as a 14cm non WG. try to find a cheap one somewhere (should be able to pick one up for $50-$75) I promise with the 5-spd you'll LOVE it. drill the divider out and spend a little time with the grinder. just keep the boost set low with a boost elbow or build a valet switch to keep your mileage. the 12cm should boost it around town and like i said would be no worse than a 14cm non on the hwy (with valet). plus, if you don't like it, it will easily bring what you have in it. just my .02

I'll second this I have a 12cm/hx-35 on mine, and I tow a 29' fifth wheel. The milage with the 5th wheel is between 10 & 12.5. About 21 hwy non towing.

Wasn't to hard at all. I just gave mine a nice little shove, and it fit right up.

On the mod's in my sig. towing my '03 5th wheel, I saw 1300 egt's, and about 31 boost. My best mpg was 12.5. I wish it would spool faster than it does. Go with the 12 you won't be disappointed.

Do not get a non-gated 14. It will limit you much more than a wastegated 12 will.

If you have a stock 03/92 truck, it has the Lagmaster 21 on it. Mom's 04/92 truck had the 21 on it; my 06/92 had the 18 on it. Check your CPL- if it's 1351=21cm; 1579=18.5cm

I'm not a fan of the 12/14cm housings. In my experience, they are too restrictive for great MPGs. I had a 12 on my truck, and traded it straight across for a 16cm and would do it again in a heartbeat. Spoolup is real close, EGTs are about the same (within 50deg), and cruise boost is much lower. Peak is about 3-4psi lower.

On 2 other trucks, I installed a 12cm housing, and went back to an 18 within a month. I figure 3 strikes, and I'm out, so no more gated housings (maybe a gated 16 on a HX40, but that is a different ball of wax.)

where do I find this CPL number? Right now I see 2-3psi cruising at 60-65mph. What would I see with a 14 or 16 non wg?
