temp guage 1/2 way up...and a small leak
When my truck warms up my temp guage settles in at about mid way or so, seems a little high to me but it's been like that since I bought it (a week ago), it starts and runs great and the gauge hasn't gotten much over mid way even going up the mountians, but today I noticed coolant on the front axle, it seems to have a small leak that I haven't been able to pinpoint but I think it's coming from where the waterpump meets the engine. Anyway, not really sure what I'm asking other than is it running hotter than it should and will it hurt it if I keep running it until I find the leak....any input helpful.
Thanks
Thanks
the 1st Gens ussually run about halfway on the gauge. Its also normal for the gauge to fluctuate between the second and first hash marks, as the thermostat opens and closes.
I wouldnt think a small leak will hurt it as long as you keep an eye on your coolant level and dont let it get low.
Try washing the front of the engine and radiator hoses off, so you can see where your leak is for certain. If over-filled , the overflow bottle will pump out the excess coolant and the fan could blow it back onto the front of the engine....

You will spend more time draining and refilling the system than actually swapping pumps.
