Tell me about crank case heater
Tell me about crank case heater
I know that i am asking alot of questions,
This dodge is my first american car in the past 15 years, my past is scattered with audi's,peugeots, mercedes and land rover, most of which have been diesels,
I was just poking about today, Just seeing how everything works, and just to see i plugged in the crank case heater,
It seems as though it has a pump, inside of the block somewhere, The wire goes into the freeze plug 2nd back from the alternator, and in a couple of seconds of plugging it in, i can feel a slight vibe in the rad
Does it have a pump in there as well as a heating element???
It is going to 49* tonight, and i am running about 75% WVO, so i figured i'de plug her in for a smooth start up at 6 am, a warm engine will be great!!!
Thank you again for any info!!!!
Pyrometer and boost gauge will go in this upcoming weekend as well as the new 4" exhaust system!!!
Peter.

No pump, just heat, but the heat cause it to slowly cirulate the coolent!
From everything I can gather on the block heater, it is a calrod type unit (resistance) that uses 750watts at 120 volts. No thermostat, so when it is plugged in, it is on all the time. I have used mine as a couple of times just to have a little heat first thing in the moring. It very rarely gets cold enough in southeast VA to need it but it is nice to have. It will save you a little on fuel when it gets cold. With you running veggie oil it may be prudent to use it more in the cool months. I don't have any experience with anything but diesel with a little additive.
