This is the swap weekend
Finally got the getrag built tansfer case twin sticked now it's time to pull the tired 518 and put the getrag in hopefully every thing goes as planed but with these old things you never know can y'all think of anything with the swap I need to watch out for think I have all the parts need for the transplant clutch master cylinder bracket peadles are the trans crossmembers the same what about drive shafts boath trucks where regular cabs want to use my shafts they have new u joints but have the shafts from the parts truck any helpful pointers would be greatful
Install the M/C mounting bracket before installing the pedals. With the clutch pedal in. It a 2 wrench job. With the pedal out you can use a ratchette.
That getrag package is 8" shorter than a 518 is. So you need the shafts from the donor.

BG Enemy im jeoulous that you have the parts to do this. I want to do mine with the Getrag or the NV4500 or even the NV5600 and get away from the slush box. I have a lead on a 4500 but still will have to find the remaining parts. But today im doing my favorite job bahahaha re-roofing my in-laws roof, id rather be bitten by a cobra than do roofing lol. Good luck on your project!!
As Phillp said, you will need to use the parts truck's driveshafts, as the A-518 is a much longer transmission.
I would have a new pilot bearing, a throw out bearing and some transmission mount rubbers on hand at least before pulling the truck apart for the swap.
Depending on if you have a lift on not, mounting the trans first
then the T-case separately might be easier to handle if your working on your back.
If you have a shop with a lift and trans jack, mounting them together is easier.

Well finally got done at 3 am last night would have been sooner but couldn't get the salve cylinder to bleed out so I put the factory one in it that had a bleeder screw in it but I am surprised how much better the truck runs now I guess the auto must of been on its last leg but am glad I did the swap
The way i was taught to bleed slave cyl that had no bleeder was to hook them up fill em up then push/pull the slave cyl a few times then wait a min or 2 then repeat. Worked every time. The old international trucks were the worst. Glad to hear you got it finished. I figured that gear box was better than slush box with less drag ect.. Keep us informed how it does!!
