Suspension again

Maybe somebody has some new info....

1 ton 4x4, plow. Without the plow, there is about 2" between stops and spring. I have a flat bed and haul heavy loads on it. Anybody have any experience with the skyjacker, superlift, etc. under hard conditions on a 1 ton? They may look o.k. under a CTD unloaded, but I don't want to snap a leaf on a dirt road with a load in the back. Asking about the fronts only, not concerned about the back.

I bought a set of front springs only,2.5" lift from skyjacker to level out my 93 350 4x4. If I remember right the front shocks had to be replaced also. My exp was a nicer ride, ended up being about 1" higher in front which I didnt like, although it made camper loadin easier, I didnt keep it long enough for them to sag out any. One problem I had was the lift really screwed up the front steering. lost my right turn by about 30% it seemed. This was from the drag link being to short basically. A new adjustable one is $180 or so. It wasent cheap for just the springs and shocks. You can darn near buy the whole lift kit for a little more. I would imagine with a plow the weight would help the front settle down. For the $$, you might want to consider just a add a leaf? My exp was theres not much avaliable for first gens in the way of springs. It ended up around $500 for everything. Probably shoulda just left it alone.

I went to a spring shop when I did mine. It was a lot cheaper, I told them exactly what I wanted to achieve and they gave me the parts to do it. Adding leafs and new u-bolts is easier than changing the whole spring in my opinion anyway.

I did go to a spring shop in Wyoming, Mi. when I got hte truck. Had a leaf added at all corners, but the sag is at the eye, and wasn't fixed. Apache, good point on the drag link. I just put a new one on and don't plan on replaceing it any time soon. Guess, I'll have to think about having a new set built.

You could get a kelderman front air bag setup only keep your springs as is and use it for overload help. I think they are around $600

I have the 2' Skyjacker springs on my 2500. It raised it up about 1" over the previous set up of an add-a-leaf in the front. The add-a-leaf had my steering screwed up like Apache mentioned but the Skyjacker springs have the same turning radius each way. The springs have the axle locating pin moved forward about an inch to compensate for this. They were very easy to install. I allready had the Rancho RS9000 shocks on and they worked just fine with the new springs.
The best part about these springs is the ride. They ride so much better than stock and the stock with the add-a-leaf was even worse. I have a 70 mile drive to work so this matters to me it may not to you.
I've never had much luck with rearching springs, they seem to sag back even if you have an extra leaf added. Once you bend a piece of steel it will always bend easier the next time. With the added leaf it just puts the weight on the added leaf. That's my 2 cents.
