Stuck Getrag Plug

Wanted to take advantage of recent mild snap (50F, WhooHoo!) to change the oil in the Getrag. Tried a 12" long 3/8" drive breaker bar with a shorty extension to remove the plug; result? SnapOn is now a SnapOff Then tried welding a short 3/8" square bar to an 18" length of 3/4" rod, twisted that sucker like a candy cane!
Sure don't want to try putting a torch around the plug, anybody have any good ideas? Thought I might remove the shifter and pump the oil out with my inboard crankcase pump, but I think the drain would be better to get any sediment or sludge.

Had the same problem with NV5600 drain plug so I welded a 3/4" nut to the plug, while it was still hot it twisted right out easily. now I just need to get a new plug.

Do you have a 1/2" ratchet with a 1/2 to 3/8 drive adapter ? That's how I got mine out.

I some cases you can drill a hole in the center of the plug to release the load off of the threads. Then you can weld a nut on the ouside of the plug and extract it. I have done lots of them with great results. Hope this helps.

I like the 3/4 to 1/2 reducer to 3/8 reducer........Something about a 3 foot rachet and a pizzed off owner that makes a plug come loose.....Besides, a 3 ft. rachet and a pizzed off owner makes more torque than a power stroke....buuuhaaa!
