I went down to one of the local muffler shops and asked how much to just cut the muffler off and run it out behind the rear tire.and there answer was I couldnt.They sayed it wasnt legal. I'm in utah,so the question is do they know what there talking about?

 

they say that because they cant do it without putting anotehr in its place iven in idaho pipe shops wonte strate pip vehicols because they will get intrubole so most of us do it ourself s and if we get pold over for it we tell them we bout it this way so just cut it off your self and ues some strate pipe or flxe pipe and two clamps it will take you about 30 min to do and about 20 dolers for the parts at napa

 

That varies, I'm sure from state to state. In Virginia it is legal as long as it isn't considered too loud by any State Troopers. The turbo is considered a muffler........sometimes. The DOT Feds say that we cannot alter any sound attenuating devices on any over the road vehicle above a certain weight rating. The one tons fall into this category but I am not sure about the 3/4 ton's. I think the cut off is a 10,000 pounds. It is in either the FSM or the owner's manual. Check out Utah's Department of Transportation or their State Police site. It may be in there.

 

A muffler shop here in el paso cut mine off with no problem and put a 3" straight pipe in its place for $25 with parts and labor included, they did it no problem in about 20 min. I have gotten a few exhausts done there before and referred people to them so they are cool to me and hook me up with what i want for a good price.

 

A corner muffler shop in the "valley" (san fernando) cut mine off in front of the rear tire. too bad they messed with the rigging, they preloaded my stock downpipe and it cracked in the middle a couple weeks later.
