Sticking throttle problem?

Hi all, i have a 91 dodge with the cummins diesel engine in it. I'm having a throttle sticking problem lately. What it is doing is the pedal doesn't travel all the way to the floor, so i can't rev the engine all the way.
It first started doing this when it the temperature was below zero, but the problem would usually go away once the truck was warmed up. For the last couple of times i've driven the truck the problem hasn't gone away no matter how hot the engine warmed up to and now the temperature is in the 35-40 range.
Any ideas? I don't think the problem is in the cable itself. I was thinking maybe one of the linkages of possibly something to do with the pump.
Thanks
Brent

First, welcome to DTR!

It would help us all out if you would put your truck info in your signature too (auto/manual, 4x4/2x4).

You could pull the linkage off the pump where it connects and see if the pump throttle lever sticks. If not, check from there back.

This isn't my personal truck, so i didn't want to fill out that info and confuse people.
The truck is a 91 dodge 4wd i/c with auto trans 3/4 ton.

First, pull your peadl up and take out all the slack. I crimp a piece of metal around the wire at the stopper. Then adjust the linkage at the pump. Look for the link with the two ball joints. You can adjust it hear to get full travel. Make sur you make conatact with the stoppers so you don't shock the pump when it's released.

Its a simple mechanical cable setup, easy to troubleshoot. With either someone helping with their foot on the throttle on the floor in the cab or with use of a piece of wood or brick holding the throttle to the floor. In your case someone pushing the throttle to the floor a few times while you watch from under the hood, watch the movement of the cable and linkages. See whats binding, in the way, and or not getting full throttle etc.

The bell crank that connects the throttle cable to the linkage sometimes becomes sticky and needs disassembly and cleaning.
