Steering Box Bracket Broke Again

Help, I need a new mounting bracket!

I'm hoping from the sticky that the part # 52037876 is ok and hope the dodge dealer can order me one...

Where did you start or get a new one? I think I'll buy two for my 4X4.

My first day being a juror (on jury duty) and went to turn around because of the road being closed and heard that awful "pop" ... gosh what a morning.

The only hwy with the best rout was closed on both sides in order to a major repair. I spent 1/2 hr sitting still, no traffic either way... then decided to head back to take a major mountain road way out of the way. well after the crack sound I pulled over and saw where the previous weld has split.

I had to head back home and use my 87 ford pony, you didn't hear that from me.... and on the way up and down the detour road the right caliper was not disengaging smoking the brake. It had this problem before but seemed to fix it self. needless to say I was 1/2 hr late and held up the whole court, but had my wife call for me. I had to talk to the judge and the whole mess was quite embarrassing.

Thank goodness my mother and step dad live close to the court house, along with a kragen auto parts. After my day of listening to this case i drove the frd up and replaced the caliper. hey, only 20 bucks for that escort caliper. Now I desperately need the mounting bracket for my truck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Got one last week from the dealer @ $18.50. New bolts were $6.00 each.

$37? Got mine a few months ago for like $22. And now I gotta get another one or weld my steering box to the bracket.

How long before some enterprising soul patterns a replacement from something other than the "sheetmetal" the factory is using?

OTOH, maybe it's acting as a fuse? Sparing the box or frame the real brunt of the damage...

If you talk to Kert at www.diy4x.com he could fab one up for you. He makes lots of stuff like that, and for a resonable price.

It will keep breaking until you tighten up the frame in the front. A gusset from the top of the frame just in front of the adapter down to the crossmember makes that whole assy very tight and stable.

Here is a quick video I made. I'll do another tomorrow of removing the old and installing the new.

I noticed that the areas of breakage, there is a gap between it and the frame. no wonder it has problems there. Thinking of reinforcing it so that it sits snug.

Better yet guys ditch that stupid weak bracket and swap to cross over steering your box bolt's directly to frame and you bypass the weak link of a draglink this only work's if you have a 4or better lift on the truck .
