steering box

One of the ears on the steering box broke off that bolts the steering box to the frame. Can I weld it back on or am I screwed and have to buy a new steering box?

SAD to say but you better just look for a new box safer that way besides castiron doesn't weld good

It can be welded but I would completely disasemble it before welding. The last time I checked NAPA had a rebuilt for around $200 so it is really not worth the effort IMO. Junkyards are another option. Good luck.

You only waited an hour. DTR members have other things to tend to other than DTR. Give it some time. Be patient. Be zen.

My opinion exactly. Our boxes are common enough that it is not worth the trouble (and potential future trouble) involved in welding the box back together.

As long as it's dry on the outside, that's a good deal.

As long as it's not leaking it just needs adjustment.

Are you sure all the slop is in the box? How about all the other steering joints.

i had my dad turn the steering wheel while i looked at the box above my left front tire, there was like a 1/2 turn play in the rod going into the box and no turn on the output shaft, like 2" at the steering wheel
