Starter Rebuild help!

I just finished installation of Larry B's super contacts, on my 93 W250's starter. I now see on his web site, that he also carries brushes for our starter's.

In order to get at the brushes, do I remove the 4 large phillips head screws on the round brush housing, then remove the two retaining nuts at the end on the brush cover, then pull the cylindrical brush cover off? Is this the correct way of removal of the brush housing on the starter? My 93 is an A518 auto trans, if that matters? TIA!

I'm fixing to do the same rebuild. So I'm not one to say right now, but . . .

You've checked here I'm sure . . . ? http://fostertruck.com/brush_install.htm

What you describe does not quite match that illustrated.

BC, Yes I checked the Foster Truck write up, but the starter shown does not look like the one from my 93. My starter has 4 large phillips head screws, spaced out around the circumference of the brush housing. The starter shown at the Foster site, is probably a from 94 or later Dodge?
Anybody know how to get at the brushes on a 1st gen starter?????

It's super simple if you have the original Nippendenso starter. Does your starter have 2 long bolts that holds the starter together, both run almost the length of the starter...?

If yes, remove, pull starter apart. Brushes will be looking at you. They are held on with philips screws.

If no, remove the 'cap' that covers the brushes. This type of starter is more of a pain to do brushes but can be done. I can't remember exactly how I did it, but it's self explanatory.

I get my brushes locally at a starter/alternator/auto/electric shop. A Nippendenso shop. BC Auto Electric Terre Haute, Indiana. Nippendenso part number is NS-4.

Do a search on starter brushes with my name. I believe I posted some links to pics of opened up starters with part numbers etc.

Bgilbert & all,
I found this Auto Parts store in FL online, which carries starter contacts/plungers/lugs etc. for our starters pretty cheap. Looks like they do not carry the NS-4 brushes? Anyways, if anyone would know which contact/plugner part our 1st gen would take from this url (I am sure the folks at Sherco Auto would know, if you emailed them): http://tinyurl.com/29wpgk, here's you're chance for a cheap starter rebuild. I wish I would have done a little web searching, before I ordered my rebuild kit on Ebay

Thanks for the link. Nothing like paying 30 bucks for something that costs a dollar-thirty.
