Started playing w/ AFC...why no smoke?'s

I turned the smoke screw 2 turns (CW), turned the fuel pin 90 (CW), and turned the star wheel 1.5 turns (CW). I was thinkin that it would smoke a little but nuttin. Can someone help a "diesel rookie" out?

With the timing bumped and a hx35 you may need to give it at little more fuel get smoke out of it. All injection pumps are different. My last truck I had the pump almost maxed and it would hardly smoke and the truck I have now the same mods it smokes like a frieght train.

Its hard to get a 91.5-93 I/c truck to smoke because the small injectors.

No smoke is a good thing though, means your ratio is good. I see the mods you have in your sig,

no smoke, that sounds about right because the 12cm on the hx35 is spooling instantly and there is no PRE-boost smoke because its spooling so fast.

to get an i/c truck to smoke it takes fuel screw adjustments and a fuel pin, Put a dennyT pin and there and she'll smoke and have more power

Do you have gauges? I would get gauges before you go ANY farther tweaking the pump.

I could hardly get a puff with everything tuned to max on the 93 when the stock sticks were in.

You can't just turn the fuel pin a set number of degrees. You have to look at it and figure out which side is the deep side, and put that facing forward.

You may well be getting LESS fuel than before.

Thanks for the replys. Got gauges in my sig. I'll check the slope on the fuel pin to make sure I didn't go the wrong way.
I'm not real sure how far in(away from stock) the fuel screw is because the shop that rebuilt the pump only told me they increased the fuel by 20%. Another " diesel rookie" question... Could it be that its not getting enough fuel to smoke
