start help

I have a recently aquired 1990 le 350 that does not start reliably with the key. Sometimes the key will work to start the truck but other times nothing happens when key is turned to start position. The truck is then started by using a stiff wire to short between the two contacts on the starter at which point it cranks right up. I leave the key in the run position when doing this. I know it must be a relay somewhere but where is it and what does it look like? thanks for your help. scott

iGNITION SWITCH, JUST REPLACED MINE THIS SPRING,AUTO ZONE HAS THEM, HOWEVER I ORDERD ONE WITH , LOCK AND KEY FROM A SALVAGE YARD .
GOT THIS ONE OUT OF OHIO. WORKS GREAT NO MORE PROBLEMS.
PART OF THE PROBLEM THE WHOLE THING WAS WORN AND THATS WHY I REPLACED BOTH PARTS. PRICE ON IGNITION SWITCH ISN`T BAD BUT LOCK AND KEY ARE REDICULAS, THATS WHY I CHOSE ONE FROM SALVAGE YARD.

Do a little checking with the test light before you throw an igniton switch at it. Could be NSS/clutch pedal switch or start relay, too.

Mine has a worn bushing in the clutch linkage which makes me need to really stab the clutch pedal to the floor. I did a temp fix with a piece of 1/2" copper tubing but eventually it will need a proper fix.
