SRW to DRW... I did search.
Hey Guys,
I did search and have come up with some good info, but a couple questions I have didn't get answered. This is what I think I know:
Front dually spacer hubs will just bolt up to my 2wd front end.
Rear end is 12" wider, and I'll need to swap it out. Obviously I'll swap the springs as well.
Ok, the idea is to just find a cheap dually and swap my singe wheel stuff to it, and the dually stuff over to my truck. Will the springs just bolt up? What about the drive shaft, is it the same length? Are 1 ton U-joints any different?
I would just get a dually truck and sell mine, but my truck is pretty low miles and as you guys know, low mile first gens are hard to find.
I'm just want the added stability of the dual rear wheels for hauling heavier stuff.
Thanks for any help,
Jason

There are 3 different width rear diffs. The srw, drw, and cab/chassis. I did the swap with a cab/chassis rear in my first truck, was the same as yours D250. I put 3" fender flares on the back becasue the outer duals stuck out a little over 3". I though it was a rather neat swap, and if the truck wasn't in such rough shape I'd still have it.
Oh and you can use the entire front setup on your stock 3/4 ton spindles. That's all I did was swap the rotors with the dually adapters already on them.

Seems like the Dodge Cummins 1 ton duallys aren't near as popular around here these days. I see them listed CHEAP. Why not just buy one set up the way you want? H.

Nope, Inner fenders are the same, Actually the inner tire on mine is where the tire on a reg d250 would be. I can tak outside dual off and run just one. Looks stupid though.

When i did the conversion i used a dana 80 out of a 99 but the bed will bolt right up and im not sure about your springs but the ones that came on my w250 had 9 leaf pacs it was way to rough of a ride i took out three leafs and added a thick overload from a Z71. rides great and still can haul. u could just get some two inch wheel spacers and make it work.

The bedside is cut out to accept the dually fender. And if you run a single wheel, it will be further out that a SRW axle.

I am thinking buying one cheap and swapping since my truck has pretty low miles. If you can find me a Dually with only 129k on the clock for $2500, I'm in! I really don't like the idea of spacers/longer studs, I would rather swap out the whole rear end. I just didn't want to have any suprises with springs or the drive shaft. I figure I can buy a cheap dually, change the rear ends out, and resell it as a singe wheel truck. Unless I can get a cheap rear end, but seams like the D-70s are going for big bucks. I figure I can buy the truck and sell it with my parts on it and probably come close to breaking even.

Jason, if you can find a donor it's just bolt on stuff. No driveshaft or spring surprises await. Count the leaves before you swap springs, it's entirely possible that your springs will be as heavy or heavier than the donor.
