Squeeking Motor (belt?)

I have had this squeeking noise from under the hood for some time now. And if I change out the belt it goes away for a few thousand miles than returns.I just changed my tensioner and it was gone for about 15 min. Now its back. The belt has about 6000 miles on it.Do you think a replcement will solve this.I'm not being cheap, but I don't really need a belt and I already have 100 bucks into this noise and if the new belt won't work than I'll just have to live with it.Unless you can help. I changed out the alt.,idler pully and the belt only with temporary + results. TIA Joe

All the Acc. spin free and I'm not sure of the brand of belt.I've read about the gatorback, but have not tried it yet.I worked on this dillegently for awhile about 2yrs ago and was unable to solve it,and would just change the belt .That would shut it up for few months, then I would just live with it.Now I thought I would figure it out once and for all.Would the water pump do this?

Only a Band-Aid approach but, would rotating the belt the opposite direction stop it for a while.

Another quick temp fix is to rub a bar of soap on the belt, really mash it in there.

Some of the time it is the brand of the belt but over time the pulleys get glazed and need to be deglazed. If you can get to them while the truck is running use some emery cloth. BE CAREFUL!!. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. If you cant get to them while its running youll have to take the belt off and sand the pulleys the hard way. This has worked for me in the past on other vehicles. Belt dressing just kills the belt

I know how frustrating it can get. After I got my truck I changed the belt but to save about 12 bucks I went to autozone (never really had any complaints with their stuff). A couple of days after putting the belt on I start listening to the squeaks, For 2 months i tried everything to no avail. For some reason I decided to put the old belt back on and never a squeak again in the last year. I think our trucks require the Goodyear belt instead of the cheap ones. Just an opinion and everybody has one.

Question Squeeking/Chirping Sound

I am having some trouble trying to locate a squeeking noise while the engine is running in gear. If I put the truck in Park or Neutral, the sounds goes away (perhaps due to more noise, raised idle). I did some reading on this board and discovered that the belt tensioner is a "usual" culprit. I ended up changing the stock tensioner with a quality Dayco unit. The squeeking sound did not go away!! The belt I am running is a "green-colored" Gates Heavy Duty. The squeeking has been persistant before and after changing the belt several hundred miles ago. The squeeking/chirping sound seems to be coming from the passenger side of the truck. The only things that rotates in the fan assembly is the alternator pulley, water pump, fan pulley, and AC compressor. Which of these is most likely causing it? I doubt it is the belt or the pulley surfaces. Everything looks good and it seems pulley bearings would be the cause of noises. All of these assessory items are stock from what I know. I have only changed out the belt tensioner, everything else is untouched. Any advice?

Mine turned out to be that $$$$$bearing$$$$ the fan rides on.

I had the same problem with my truck. Put on a new tensioner a couple months before the new belt (one of 3 new belts during this ordeal). No change. I wire wheeled the fan pulley, water pump, alternator and a/c pulley. And I put a fluid dampr as well. And I scuffed the tensioner pulley with a 3m pad. Put a brand new Gates belt on and 2 weeks later the squeak is back. I just dealt with it for a while but it got really loud at all rpm's. There is nothing leaking on it either. Only thing I hadn't changed was the brand of belt. I use gates hoses and belts on everything I own without any issues. But this last time I put a gator-back on it and so far so good. Its been a couple months and several thousand miles with no squeak. SMKHZRD's truck was an auto and his would only squeak when at idle in gear. His went away with a new tensioner. The fan bearing can be another culprit. To test whether it is the belt or a bearing start the engine and do whatever you need to to get it to squeak. Take a spray bottle of water and just squirt a little on the belt. If its the belt it will go away until the water flies off or evaporates. Be sure to squirt both sides of the belt. The soap trick works too. Rub a bar of soap against it while running (watch your fingers) and if it goes away its the belt. If its still there you have a bad bearing. Good luck.

Aaron

sometimes the spring in the tensioner squeak as it moves
with the pulsations of the belt.
Try removing the tensioner and sqirting some oil into the openings, try
to get some oil inside the housing into the spring. Thats how I got rid of the squeak on mine.
I removed the pulley and dunked the tensioner in ATF, then let it drain out a few hours
then re-install and try it again
