speedometer stopped

alrigth well lately the speedo in my truck has stopped working, it all started when i spool the turbo at the lights and take off squeeling the tires, is this just coincidence? or has this done something to the gear or machanism that reads the speed? where could i start looking?

Look for a wire going to the speed sensor on the tranny because it goes across the tranny and close to the exhaust and after that pull the gear out and check it.

Does the odometer still work?

My guess is that the VSS is laying on the crossmember...

Sounds like the VSS is not working. Check to see that it's actually still hooked up, and that the drive isn't rounded off.

No, the VSS is on the side of the tranny. Drivers side above the crossmember if its a getrag 2wd. Not sure on the others. Two wires coming out of it heading up and over the tranny to the front of the truck.

my trucks 4x4 could the plug be at my transfer case? because i also have a 618 transmission from a 94+ truck and all that i plugged into that was my neutral safety switch. and there is 2 plugins on the transfercase one for the indicator lamp on the dash, and the other i assume is for speedo.

Yes, your VSS will be on the transfer case. It screws on where you'd expect a speedo cable to go.
