Speedo is jumping

My speedo is glitching. It will quit for a split second and then start to work again. This plays havoc with the cruse control. I have looked at the connections at the back of the tranny and all looks good. Any ideas on how to fix this?

If its an automatic trans, its more than likley spedo pickup. I changed mine ,no big job, got it at auto zone for 32,oo i think, changed it in the parking lot and it works fine every since .
(YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK IF YOU BUY AUTO PARTS AND PUT THEM ON IN THE PARKING LOT WHERE THEY WERE PURCHASED !!)

If your trans has one of those goofy right angle adapters on it, check that first. They start to strip out.

Judging by what I've done to mine, it sounds like a Vehicle Speed Sensor located on the drivers side of the tranny. They're a joke to change or remove but when my speedo was dieing on me the VSS fixed it.
