Well you need to establish if it has rear speakers in it now, in the corners. If it doesn't, it's ok. Look and see if it has the WIRES hanging down from the corners of the cab. You'll see 2 speaker grilles in the corners.
Both doors have 6x9's in the front bottom. These upgraded will sound good.
If you don't have rear speakers from the factory, You're gonna have to trace down the litte "jumper" that plugs into the radio, and goes to the wiring harness. What this plug does is make it so where the front speakers get power only and rear gets none. This little plug is easy to find once you know what' you're looking for. It'll come out of the radio, and go back about 8" into the factory harness just as if an aftermarket stereo wiring harness would.
If you don't have any wiring running to the back because your truck is a NON-LE, then the plug for the rear speakers is under the dash chilling.

In the LE's the back speakers in tucked in the corners are 4x10's. If you go that route there aren't many out there. I went with the Kenwoods and they sound better than I thought they would.

What's the deal with the marine rated speakers.
If you put the factory speaker shields back over the aftermarket speakers you shouldn't get any water in them even if your window seals are bad.

I noticed one day that on my driver's side door that water came out where my speakers were. I couldn't use the stock shields back on or it wouldn't fit. That kind of concerned me but the speakers still work good so i'm not too worried about it.
Oh I'm not saying a marine rated speaker is a necessity. But in my experience the Polk Audio 6x9 marine rated speakers:
1. Fit the OEM mounting holes perfectly with no drilling.
2. Fit the OEM connectors perfectly (using the Crutchfield adapters) with no cutting into the wiring.
3. Are impervious to a bit of moisture getting past that flimsy plastic flap that Mopar calls a "shield."
4. Sound great (most important)
. So my question is – why not?
When I had my 1st gen, I put a JVC deck with Infinity Speakers in the doors and in the cab corners. I also put two 3.5" (can't remember) Infinity speakers under the dash, sort of facing the floors. They were just hanging there on handmade brackets. I also put an Aura Bass Shaker under the seat for the feeling of bass. I'm not into car stereos, but I like my music LOUD and CLEAR. This setup worked for a while, then I eventually put a single 10" SPL sub behind the seat in a truck box, and tossed the Aura bass shaker. No amp, just fed off the stereo cause this was all leftover stereo equipment from my former vehicles. After a serious insulation upgrade on the floors, firewall, roof, back of cab, and inside the doors...The stereo sounded even better. Also, I used some Liquid Nails, and some 3-Mil plastic Sheeting to replace the factory plastic stuff on the doors. Easy as pie.
When I bought the truck, the stereo was gone, and the wiring was terrible. I removed the old stuff and I had to wire everything from scratch, which I preferred...made solid connections & grounds to prevent any future problems.
