soundproofing techniques

some of you guys put dynamats (sp?) on the doors to improve your stereo sound

I swear my truck is louder in the cab than it is outside

obviously can't insulate enough to block that out but how do you knock it down a notch so you can hear yourself think when you're doing 70 mph?

I put peel & seal everywhere but the firewall and it's a big improvement. I also put a sheet of foam insulation between the headliner and the roof and it made the truck stay cooler on a 100f day.

I glued carpeting inside the door panels last thing before snapping them back in place, and on the shift lever under the hump hole I put a tin disk, then two disks of carpet to sit above it loose on the stick. On the hump I cleared away the floor mat so as to get the rubber boot properly screwed down, since prior to that the floor mat would foul the screws and I'd never get the boot well screwed down. Oh and a new piece of exhaust pipe, new muffler and tail pipe. Now my Better Half and I can communicate in there without sign language. .. and almost hear the radio at engine-off volume., ... seriously it's seriously quieter. Good thing too cuz we're pulling my camper trailer on a four-day outing next week, ...

Can you put Dynamat inside the hole truck and firewall do everything. And then a 1/2 inch thick pad One good thing you will never fall asleep behind the wheel going 70 mph..????

I used some damplifier from second skin audio. They are local to me here in phoenix. All I have done so far is the firewall. I had to do the heater core so I ripped the whole dash apart and did this at the same time. After the damplifier I put a layer of the luxury liner over that. Engine noise is down quite a bit. I haven't had a chance to do the rest just yet. Expensive stuff but it really works.

I'm tempted to try the luxury liner. How many square feet does it take to do the firewall?

I covered everything I could on the inside of my IROC Camaro with the Rattle Trap 80 mil stuff and I now have to roll the window down to tell I have a Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust system, AC seems to work a little easier as well. Here's a link.

I'd be interested to know this too, mine is all well but the shifter boot for the getrag. Anyone have the same problem? all the noise on mine seems to come through this.

Thank You.

I bought the smallest amount, 9 square feet. Its just enough to do the whole firewall but not down the floor at all. Stops right below the gas pedal mount. It was a pain to cut out for all the stuff under there but was worth it. Truck is still ridiculously loud inside but now its just because the low cut stacks.

Lowes sells some peel/stick foam insulation with aluminum facing that was only $1/sq.ft. Frost King makes it I think. It is not the Asphalt based roofing peel/stick like Ice&Water Sheild. This stuff is foam and designed for duct work.

It may see strange, but beside the fire wall- you need to do the hood and our trucks really need a lower belly pan ala newer vehicles. Coming through the hood will hit the winshield which you cannot add dyamat too.
I want to do a full job to mine plus build the quitest 4 inch exhaust ever seen on a D250. Maybe even do a double-wall pipe under the cab.
