Angry Son of a oil leak!!

So I pull into my drive way and idle the truck up to run something into the house, five minutes later I come out and see a puddle of oil running out from underneath it. I ran in and shut it off b4 anything else, I noticed the oil pressure gauge wasn't reading .

So it was dark when this happened and I can't see anything with a flash light. Theres oil everywhere! I know the leak is at the back of the engine above the bellhousing. Oil sprayed up the firewall, down and covered the transmission and is all over the exhuast beside the tranny.

I hopped in my dads truck and took a boot down the road to see how far it had been leaking for and couldn't find it anymore after driving probably a bit farther then 5 miles. It looks like it started slow and just got worst and worst.

Any Idea of what it could be? The only thing I can think of thats back there that would leak is head gasket but I didn't think that it would leak that bad! I will take pics of the violence tommorow in daylight and post them.

The valve cover gasket can put out a lot of oil if it's loose or the cover is cracked. There's also a welch plug at the back of the cam, but that's inside the bellhousing. I'm kinda puzzled on this one as well.

I can't tell for sure but it really looks like it is above the bellhousing. Its all up the firewall, in the area where the motor is and #6 and #5 valve covers are covered and dow both sides a bit at the back.

I'll have to post some pics later

Fill the oil up and take it to a carwash, clean it up and then find the leak.

On the 1st gen trucks, some of the original rear main seals would actually fall apart. Usually it would cause a steady drip but not the disaster you describe. But it's worth a look. Regardless, it sounds like something inside the bell housing.

Thats a beach. I was hoping I wouldn't have to pull the tranny. I don't think it would be the rear main seal cuz i got a new one last year, but you never know, probably the cam plug.

Heres the pics

The yellow circle is the rate that it was leaking when I was idling into my driveway last night before I noticed

In the second and last pic you can tell that the oil was splashing all over the place although I haven't witnessed it running like this yet

I just had a thought, If it was the cam plug located in the bellhousing how could it blow way up the firewall like it did? The bellhousing is like a cover so how could it get around it like that?

That's why I'm puzzled. But that's a full pressure oil leak for sure!
