Some problems this morning

Get ready for a little read,

On the way to work this morning my truck volt guage fell down to around 10 from normally 13-14. Also my temp gauge buried itself but and when I got to work the engine physically wasn't hot . I figure the t-stat failed open (I know what an overheated vehicle feels like) but why would the temp guage read so hot. It had plenty of coolant and the overflow wasn't full and boiling out like it should have been if it was as hot as the guage said.

What suggestions?

Luckly I only live 9 miles from work so I am going to limp home this afternoon.

stock gauges aren't worth a thing. maybe plumb up a cheapo mechanical to make sure there is actually a problem.

Unplug your coolent temp sensor and see if it comes down!
if so the there is a short in the sensor.

My guess is that you have a ground issue.....don't no were the ground is for the guages but thats my guess

did your temp guage go down to 10 and back up?........like your air heaters were just turning on and off?

Well my air heaters don't work so I know its not that it just went down to ten and stayed there. What I don't understand is why my truck was fine yesterday and this morning it started acting up. My gauges have always read accauratly before. There was no radical temp changes this morning in the outside air it was actually fairly nice

Check your ground under the hood. I've had loose and corroded cause the gauges to go haywire. Also a bad headlight switch helps foul stuff up. They don't last long. Clean all your electrical connections under the hood before you dump money in to the bigger stuff.

Ok I will add this to the list for this afternoon.

Just to add my air heaters haven't worked for almost a year now so I am not worried about that affecting this problem

The air heaters quite work or do you have them disconected

check all your fuseable links, below the drivers side hood hing. there, might be why your air heates don't work! and could be creating eather broblems
