Glad to hear all is good! Now upgrade your rears to the 3" 1 ton shoes and cylinders and you'll be stopping on a .... nickel? Couldn't think of anything smaller than a dime.

I had the same problem and replaced the master... only helped partially. Got the rear hubs and drums off to find the self adjuster wire with the springs were missing! So the adjusters could hold the lever onto the star wheel. Stops great now after replacing them too.

If you're not losing fluid, and pumping it brings back the braking power; it's the master.

Must disagree on that one. Bigger shoes and cylinders are not going to get you stopped any faster unless you've got lots of weight in the bed; all more brakes there will do is lock the rears more quickly which won't get you stopped faster( unless you wind up hitting something solid ).
cheers,
Douglas

Don't we have a load proportioning valve? I don't know if we do or not, but if so that's going to help right? And if the ABS is working, won't that help with lockup too? I think I know where you're going, and it would be better to have bigger brakes at the front unless you're loaded, but aren't there ways of overcoming lockup through onboard hardware?

No, we don't have a load sensing valve. Full braking power is always available. The 1st gens rely on the RWAL to keep the truck from swapping ends when empty.
