size of missing nut on power steering pump
size of missing nut on power steering pump
So I've been losing PS fluid, and it turned into a bigger leak, I could see it dripping when I turned off the truck. Steering groaned a tiny bit, too.
Thought I'd investigate...see if this was from a weep hole or bad seal or bad hose or what have you. Degreased the whole pump and the area surrounding it thoroughly, with spray degreaser, hot water, and pressurized cold water spray.
I'm down under there with a flashlight , trying to trace the leak, and I notice that one of the four big nuts that holds the whole thing together in the middle is missing. These are the nuts that bolt the round thing on the end where the reservoir is to the pump. I'm guessing that I found the source of my leak here...
What size are these nuts ?
Perhaps something common from the nut pile here might work ?

OK, looks like I'm going to have to reseal the whole thing. My searches turn up two parts numbers for seal kits.
4089842
and
4089742
also there is another O ring, part number
3911805
These numbers still valid ?
Guess I can always just make the drive down to Cummins NW and find out...
EDIT: Looks like I need a gear puller of some kind in order to replace one of the seals ?
Or...should I just replace the power steering pump itself ? This would be easier than getting a gear puller.
