Shut That Truck Up!!!

You may have to go to Home Depot. I have noticed that their online catalog is no where near comprehensive. I swear they have it, at least they do here in Manhappiness Kansas. I may have to try that expanding foam. So you're basically spraying it into that gap in the top of the fender in the door jamb, that allows air from the engine compartment to flow into the door, right?

Too bad you couldn't find some of the ice-dam stuff for roofing, without the gravel on it. You could cut big sheets in any shap and stick it right down. I guess you could always spray adhesive on it befor laying the insulation and carpet down. Might keep the gravel in place and even help quiet it a bit?
I've just search Yahoo, and the Phone book and called EVERY roofing, AC, Heating, & supply business in the area, and NOBODy carries a self adhesive foil insulation!
Home Depot doesn't carry the "Protecto Wrap" like mentioned above & looks to be the best stuff out there. They show a Thermwell product on their website, but none of the local stores carry it.
What a freakin joke!

Here is the website for the stuff I used. See if you can find a dealer. If you click on that pdf file, the product you want is on the third page. Their phone number is 1-888-399-0648. They are based out of Denver. Maybe they even do mail order.

Yeah I found that website, but there's only 2 dealers around here... I'll see i my friend can get it for me since he lives out near one of the dealers.
Im sorry I didnt see your question at the top of this page. Yeah I just filled in the upper corner between the fender & cab corner with the expanding foam. It sorta looks ugly when the door is open, but i'm going to clean it up and coat it with the undercoating to sorta hide it.

Hate to dig up an old thread, but....
I went to put some of this stuff on the back wall of my cab since it seems to be the source of lots fo the noise. Like a big bass drum when you barely tap it. Anyway, the carpet is glued solid to the thing. In order to do this I am gonna have to peel it off. I then don't think it will readhere to the foil on the dampening material.
Any ideas? I thought of getting a pece of some type of thin plywood or thick poster board and sticking it to that and then putting it back in?

I am glad to hear this.. I thought I was the only one who has to yell in my truck. The cab is like being inside a big drum. Last year I had all of the interior upholstry replaced and new carpets and when I got it back I thought I was going to go nuts driving 70 MPH, couldn't hear the radio, cell or myself. I found that when they replaced the carpets, they took out the tar backed insulation and replaced it with that real thin 1/2" felt. So I took out the seats and stripped the cab out. Then in the floor pan, I used some 5/8 foil backed foam board all tiled to the entire floor and up the back of the cab and taped all the joints with aluminum foil tape. Then to the top of that I laid down 5/8 commerical carpet padding. Then I put the carpeting back down. It was a task getting the door trim back on because it is now 1 1/4 " thicker but it sure is cushy on the floor. Now it is alot quieter I can hear my phone ring now and I don't come off the freeway and have the radio blasting. I like the idea of the Peel-N-Seal do you know if it is waterproof, should be I would think. I am thinking of steam cleaning the underside of the cab then putting it on the bottom side also in the area of the muffler. This should stop alot of the resonating from the sheetmetal. What do you think? Also do any of you have the problem of fuel leaking under the truck when you fill up? I think it is the rollover valve but not sure yet. I usually fill up around 5:00 A.M. and dont care to check at that time. Have just been putting a drain pan under the leak, then back over it next day. Later Jim.
