About a week after i turned my pump up, my truck stoped shuting off. I pulled the shutoff solenoid out to find that the pin that blockes the fuel off has a ruber coated tip to it, and the rubber had cracked allowing a little bit of fuel past, just enough to let it keep running.
So come to find out to get a new pin you have to buy a whole new solenoid for almost 90 bucks.
I bought a new one and about two months later, same thing, i was towing for like 4 hours up to the mountains, with my foot burried in the throttle most of the time, and when i went to shut it off it just kept running.
When i got home i took it apart, same thing, the rubber broke off.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something that is going wrong that im just not geting?
Anyone know of somewhere to find a cheaper source for a shutoff solenoid, or posibly just the pin from bosch?? Right now the only place i have been able to get the parts is a dieslel injection pump shop.
It seems kind of rediculous that i went through two of these in a couple months. THis all happened in the spring, and ive been shuting it off by hand for like 6 months and im getting sick of it, so i wanna fix the problem.
Looking for any suggestions you guys got.

The lever is on the left(driver) side of the pump, right in the middle of the pump body. It is a piece of flat plate that is on a sprung pivot. The pivot is horizontal, and the lever faces down, it rotates counter clockwise to shut it down. Hold it until the motor totally stops, or it will fire right back up.

Apparently the fuel shutoff solenoid from the VW works with the first gen CTD and are cheaper. Take a look at the following post.

I went through two soleniods as well Mr. Plain. I turned my fuel screw down a bit but could not live with the power loss sooo..........I bought a choke cable assembly kit from "Crappy Tire for around 11 bucks canadian and took a few hours to do a clean install and voila!!, no more popping the hood to kill her. A bonus of going the cable route is that if you install your choke **** in a relatively hidden location, a thief could be thwarted. My choke cable is just stiff enough to defeat the levers return spring....therefore it holds the lever in shut-position until I push it forward again. The install can be a bit tricky as cable position is hit and miss but no rocket science. Hope this helps bro.

Im for sure gunna rig a cable. I thought of that when it first happended, i just know that my truck is a little rough around the edges and i didnt really wana rig a bunch of things kuz then the truck whould be really rough. But it always seems to be the case when you modify one thing you gotta modify 10 more. But that is what makes it fun.

Great. I haven't had a problem yet and my pump is turned up rather well. Now I will need to go out and take a good look at the pump and wonder if I may need to modify something. My luck, it will be just on the verge of letting go. At least I have seen some good talks about this and will be prepared.
Hi guys this is the first time I have posted here, but I have this on another site. I have blown out 4 shutoff pins on my truck. the last one I bought was from Case/New Holland dealer(farm tractors). It was on par with the VW one price wise(around $45) It has been in my truck for 3 months(and counting) now with no problems so far
