Short? Open? Headlight Issue

I tried the search, but didn't come up with this, so I'm asking for opinions and advice.

1993 D250. Rolled into work about 2 weeks ago and shut the truck off. Loaded all my stuff into my big truck, and was ready to go. Looked back at the Dodge, and the headlights were on. That's odd, I didn't even have the headlights turned on. This is a Canadian truck, so it has DRLs. Tried a few things, but finally just unplugged the headlights and headed out. Got back in last night and sure enough, the battery is dead. Boosted it to start it and after it had been running for about 20 minutes, I plugged the headlights back in. Sure enough they were on.

So, the high beam indicator is always on, switching from high beams to low beams makes NO difference. It is on low beams all the time. Normally the DRLs don't come on until the truck moves for the first time after startup, but as I mentioned, the headlamps don't shut off. Turning the headlamp witch off and on makes no difference to the headlights, but the taillights and clearance lights go off and on with the switch.

So the question is, what think the members of the DTR? Headlight switch or dimmer switch? Or...

For those of you in the sunny south, please be advised that it seems unseasonably cold here, with temps below freezing (yeah, I'm a wimp) and I would like to kinda minimize the pointless part of trouble shooting.

BTW, I disconnected the battery when I got home last night, so I will have battery this morning.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice! Rick

Don't now how you day time running light work but if you can find that mod smack it real hard it might release the relay that is stuck in side it.......if that's were the relay is for the DRLs If not fined it and remove it, to see if it's the problem

I'll look over my wiring diagrams tomorrow to try to figure out what it could be, I have to get to bed soon.

Unhappy

It's not an open circuit because current needs a load and then a ground. It has both of those but not the correct ones = short circuit. Or, the headlight switch is stuck closed (passing power) and draining the battery. Probably the switch. It's seems alot more likely the switch went bad. Rich

If youll notice on our trucks, even with lights off if you hit dimmer switch the headlights flash. It may not be the prob but it was on mine, replaced switch and all good.

Okay. Thanks to all so far. I unplugged the DRL relay, (right hand side inner fender) and my lights went out. they turn on and off with the switch now! But no high beams, So I guess i'll have to replace the module and see what happens. I Noticed though that the Instrument lights don't work now. Will check fuses later. Thanks to all. BTW, the FSM I have has next to no detail about this stuff. Guess I need the "body" manual too.
