Shifting problems

Im having a hard time getting my truck into some gears, i took it in and now i cant get it into 1st gear, i cant find new or even used parts. Dose anybody know how i can fix this or possibly a place to find some parts. I have an 89 1st gen cummins.

Well if the automatic aint going into gear, then that's a bad thing.

Sounds like it's a rebuild time for your tranny. I'm not sure but did the early 89/90's still run the 727 with a lock up converter? Or did they have the 518od unit already?

Regardless both tranny's are rebuildable, lots of parts out there, so don't worry about that.

The 89-90's had a TF-727 with a NON-lockup converter, so did the A-518s. I would check your linkages and make sure that there isn't any binding, and that the bushings are all good. Before that though, I would disconnect the linkage at the transmission, and make sure that the problem is not internal, by manually moving the shift arm with your hand from under the truck.

89-91 had a non lockup 727 91.5-93 had the 518 non lockup also.

If the tranny shop you went to tells you that parts for a 727 are not available I would find a new tranny shop. The only part that might be a little hard to come by is the case cause it is diesel only. But I your case should be reusable. But other than that parts are readily available for that.
