?s on hx35

k i got my hx35 off my parts motor. now its says its a
hx35w whats the W mean. on the intake side its 12 stamped in so i guess it 12cm houseing. if u were to change the houseing to an 18 or 21cm houseing what am i going to see one i know is lag but will there be different in boost levels from each houseing. how much can the turbo shaft hav in play up, down and in, out play should it hav little to none ? the exhaust manifold looks high flow to like one u would buy BD would it be good to take the manifold and bolt it the hx35 back to it and put it all on my truck would it all work good ?

the motor is a 24valve that i took the turbo from

I recently added an HX35 from a 2002 Dodge, and it has the 12cm housing. There is a big difference in spool between the 18.5 and 12cm housing. Overall I probably noticed about 5-10psi increase in boost. I would recommend the 12cm, but it will raise your EGT's. You don't need to take the manifold off to put it on the truck. However, if it is the stock manifold (not sure about aftermarket styles), it should have four-thredded studs anchored in the manifold. That HX35 will have two slotted holes in the flange that mounts to the exhaust housing, but the other two are threaded and will not slide on. When I put mine on, I just used a 7/16" drill bit and carefully drilled out the two threaded holes in the housing flange. Then you should be able to slide it on an bolt it up. If you have your stock downpipe, then it will move the exhaust back about an inch. You will have to loosen it all underneath and probably get someone to help you push/pull the exhaust back in order to get the downpipe in place with the exhaust housing. Hopefully some others will chime in with their expertise. Hope this helps you.

You haven't stated if your truck is an auto or stick. The 12cm housing seems to be a favorite of the stick shift crowd. A 16cm or 18cm is the prefered one for the auto people.

Like EMS said. Figure 5 to 10 PSI if your going from the stock 18cm to a 12cm.

As long as you can't make the wheels touch the housing, the side play is OK. You should not have any perceptible endplay.

12 cm housing is for manual cars. Autos need 14-16 cm housing I've been told .

That's fine, EGT will actually go down some with that turbo.
