running engine w/ no exhaust
running engine w/ no exhaust
I am was wondering is ther any harm in starting and running -short term- a CTD without any exhaust from the turbo back?. I am looking at selling the exhaust off a truck but it would be nice to start it and still be able to drive it around the yard and into the garage.
It sounds safe to me but I would feel dumb if I ruined my turbo doing this little stunt

I drove my truck to the exhaust place after I put on my he351. I didn't have the hotside from the turbo to intercooler hooked up and I also didn't have exhaust. It was just venting into the engine bay on both ends. I don't suggest it but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. It didn't hurt anything, and I did drive it REAL easy.
I was rolling down the interstate when my exhaust came loose from the turbo. It only dropped down about 2"s and I didn't know it till smoke fumes started coming in through the dash vents. The entire fire wall was covered in black soot.
Good thing the AC was out and it was 95*f, so I already had plenty of ventilation in the cab

yep shouldn't hurt it, I've done the same thing when i put my he351 on. I've also started mine with no manifold (thought a mouse got in one of the ports and didn't wanna suck him through my new turbo) I would suggest leavin your hood open a bit so it'll vent out a little better, and drive easy so your firewall doesn't turn black.
