Rim suggestions for 2wd

I'm looking today at craigslist,

I see a set of 2016 take off new tire and wheels asking $1000. Obviously offer him less..
Will they fit my 1991 d250. Upgrade to 9/16 studs +new nuts. For the fronts. What size spacer is needed? Rears?

I see sticky for older wheels.

I am thinking you would need at least 2 or 3 inch inch spacers in front and back.
Or you could just use spacers in the front and install a Dually 1st gen axle or a SRW 2nd gen axle to make the rear wider without wheel spacers

I think the sticky say 1.16 offset distance, so I can do 1.25 spacer.

The rear is a good idea, go to a 2002 or newer. But it will need alteration to fit the springs. Of course hat doubles the expense.

I have 2 inch spacers behind some 2014 IIRC Dodge 2500 take offs on a 4x4 1st gen.
The fronts look about right, but the rears still sit in more than I would like.
I am pondering taking the rear spacers out and installing a wider rear axle option.

I think Oliver is right on the 2 or 3 inch. Don't think 1.25 would do it. If it were me, I'd wait till they were in my driveway so I could measure the actual difference then order spacers close to that. Good luck

I would not use 3rd gen axle, which is '03 and up.
I would use a 2nd gen Dana 70 from a '02 or OLDER Dodge.
The spring perches are the same width apart as the 1st gens.
The only difference being the spring perch for the leaf springs is 3 inch wide rather than 2 1/2.
It would be easy enough to trim them down a little for 2 1/2 clamps to fit around the 3 inch perches.
No alteration of springs, no modified driveshaft lengths to bolt in a Dana 70. It is almost a bolt in deal.
The added bonus of not having to pull the axle shafts to work on the brakes makes it a nice up grade.

Or the Dually 1st gen Dana 70 IS a bolt in.

So,

New 2016 wheel will fit. Are the 275/70/18 going to give a better ride??

We're gen 2 d70 available w positract like my d70u which is a 1991.5?
Disc brakes or outboard drums would be better. 3.54 ratio I think is currently in my truck.

Positrac is GM lingo / stuff.

The Dodge trucks have a factory limited slip differential option.
Yes the '89-'02 trucks could come with or without the LSD.

Trac lock, limited slip...posi. I use them interchangeable.

Anyone have commented on how ride will improve w 17 or 18 inch wheels.

Tired of these Comercial series tires. I don't tow much.

You can also consider the beefy Dana 80 out of pre 2002 2nd gen diesel trucks with the manual transmission. Also the later era Dana 80s have disc brakes.

Yea- considered a D80 too.

As I see it- the brakes/axle wheels need to be compatiable. A D80, the 3rd gen rear brakes I believe will require 17 inch wheels...

I think I might just keep looking for a nice set of Alcoa wheels. Then atleast, I can buy the wheels and then tires at a later date in time.

Love to upgrade all the brakes to Gen 2 or 3 stuff. But there must be awesome interchangeability or it will be out of my budget.

I repeat.
D-70 and D-80 axles are 2nd gen axles.
1st gen 16inch rims bolt right on to any Dana 60,70 or 80 combo, out of a Dodge '89-'02

You don't want a 3rd gen axle if you are trying to do this easily and cheaply.

there is a guy on the interwebs building a K5 blazer with a dana 60 front axle. he built brackets to mount dodge cummins 3rd gen rotors and calipers on his front dana 60. of course, he won't share the CAD files for whatever reason, but it's possible. they are massive, like over 14" rotors and dual piston calipers. by the end of summer, i will have this swap done on my truck and will be sure to make the files/brackets available to all.

edit: disregard, just realized you're 2x4 not 4x4...

Good on you man, that's cool. Some people don't realize, the more we mod our old trucks to be perfect, the more they might make the new ones to be worth upgrading. Thanks.
