Remote transmission filter location
I searched and found this thread:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...e+trans+filter
Summit sells the kit, as does Amazon
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-80277/
http://www.amazon.com/80277-Universa...=pd_sim_auto_1
Same kit.
I read that Faith said it should come out of the trans, at the forwards tube, prior to the stock cooler under the turbo. I was going to splice my line, just forwards of the trans from the front pressure line, and return it back to the same location.
Did anyone else do this ?? If so, how did you make your connections to the existing trans lines ? I'd like to do the job and make it as neat and professional as possible, meaning that it won't look like a hack job, just sticking hoses in there and a couple of clamps. Ideal job would be with tubing, no ?
Also would like to know where you mounted the filter itself, as I'm again trying to make this easily accessible and neat. Mounted in the engine compartment, or somewhere underneath ? I guess the shortest hose run possible would be best
Pix would be nice of your setup
Thanks !

I am going to install my filter system next to the axillary cooler under the bed.
The factory optional cooler was installed in series before the heat exchanger to help lower the coolant temperature by lowering the ATF temp before it gets to the engine.
My hot line was cut and rerouted to the back of the truck so I am going to feed my filter where the fluid is the hottest and then into my fan cooled under-bed cooler.
I am making a bracket that will mount the filter base off the back of the cooler housing just ahead of the rear tire and below the fuel filler neck, this way replacing the filter will be easy and keeps the mess to a minimum.
I am still in the planning stages on the filter but I think I am going to use a Wix/ NAPA Gold 1515 most of the kits I have seem use a Fram PH8A but I would never do that to my truck.
I also a either going to drop a rare earth bar magnet inside the filter before I install it or get the magnet that encircles the filter housing to catch any ferrous metals in suspension.
Also where the hot line was cut under the trans I have to install my temp sender for my gauge but I do not like the way the factory has the hoses running so I am going to reroute the hot line using a section of 1/2" steel tubing bent into a U-shape return so it will so I will not have a hand full of fittings to restrict the flow.
I know it might be hard to imagine what I am talking about but I will have some pictures once I get all of my parts for the project including the 1/2" TOC hose.
The Napa Gold 1515 is rated at 21 micron and 7-9 GPM flow.
Also remember the ATF in your lines will be in the 150*-275* range so you need to use special TOC hose rated at a higher temperature to survive.

Anyone know what size the steel lines, that come out of the trans, that lead forwards to the cooler ? I guess I could go lie down under the truck, but I feel lazy today, as it's valentines day, and my wife is being her usual PITA self.
I believe that have the cooler in front of the rad, and near the turbo.
I want to cut the steel line, and insert the remote kit. I'll assume that the rear tube is the one to cut, as it's the return line to the trans, correct ??
My trans runs average 145* F to 160*F, so I'm not looking to cool it any more than it already is...
Thanks !
BTW, those inline magetfine filters look great... although it's much messier changing them out....

The steel lines used for the cooling circuit are all 1/2", I am trying to find some 1/2" steel tubing here locally but I will probably have to order it.
The guy at Napa insisted it was only 3/8" and I kept telling him No Way Jose, I finally took him out to the truck for a quick education.
His name was Jose.

I appreciate the info. I'm going to look for a tool to "re-flare" the tubing, similar to the brake tubing flare kit that I have, so that I can put new ends on the cut out section of tubing, and attach hoses from each end to the filter mount. Do you know of a company that makes such a tool ? I'm thinking something along the lines of this:
http://www.amazon.com/Ridgid-Double-...9313001&sr=1-2
But I want to confirm the flare style / type needed, so I'm going to the Hose Shop near me to find out just what types of fittings they have, and what type of flare they use.
Ever used one of those ? My brake line double flaring tool works pretty good, but the tubing is small and easy to work with. Not sure how the tubing on our transmissions will be.
