remote starter
remote starter
I am thinking about getting a remote starter, I have read a bit on several units that work with diesel vehicles, any recommendations??
There is one manufactured by Prostart that can start your truck ever 4 hours and run for twenty minutes then shut down, I do a fair bit of ice fishing in -4 to -40f. sometime my cord just wont reach!

If you're going to use it for cold starts, you need one that's designed for diesels. They have a wire you connect to the "Wait To Start" light wire so the remote starter will wait until the light goes out.
For your ice fishing use I would put in a high idle cable so you can idle 'er around 1200 RPM. Set it before you shut down so it's not sitting there slobbering at low idle when the remote starts it up.
As an alternative, consider a Webasto heater. It's a coolant heater that burns diesel. It also has a control timer so it's not running constantly.
