Reliable source with a good reputation for a rebuilt Getrag 360?

Is it the tail-shaft parts or is it necessary to swap the internal shaft from the input on back?

Just curious. I don't have any project in mind.

I resemble that remark.

I am seriously considering looking for a NV5600 or G56 for my '90. Not really because I want a six speed, but because "good" G360 parts are getting harder and harder to find.

Main shaft and the tail housing is totally different, IIRC.
I had a good Dodge brother of mine swap around the parts for Ponchos transmission. I dropped of a great shifting 2wd Getrag along with a crappy shifting 4x4 Getrag at his shop. He swapped stuff around for me and told me what I owed him. Been in Poncho for 5 years now.

I don't know how one would check the preload before installing the trans other than disassembling it and doing some measurements. If anyone knows maybe they'll chime in.

Back in the day I was an import tech, when we did man trans` it was common to use a heavy gauge/dia piece of solder in place of any preload shims, assemble the unit then disassemble, measure the thickness of the now crushed solder and add the preload value.

Dude! I love that idea.

I have used small card boxes or foam before to make sure hoods clear air filters, intake horns or to make sure the hood latch doesn't piece the intercooler on builds before, but using the same basic idea to nail the shims is brilliant.

Sort of like using PlastiGauge for your trans bearing clearance. Brilliant!

Update - I contacted these guys and they had a rebuild-able core in stock - Rebuilt Transmissions Beech Grove | Transfer Cases - so I had them rebuilt it for me.

It is in the truck and it shifts like new again. :-)
